We are currently recruiting for an Assistant professor in Computer Science for the Heriot-Watt Global College Dubai. Many students in Dubai and around the world opt for Heriot-Watt’s Degree Entry Programme as a sound means of bridging the qualification gap between school and university. The DEP smoothly transitions students into university life by equipping them with the study skills, research tools, and early course introductions to excel in their university career. In the DEP, students choose between three different study pathways: Engineering, Management, and Design. Within each of these pathways, students have the opportunity to study introductory courses that align with their fields of interest such as business, design, or physics. Given the vast array of educational systems that students come from before entering into our university, the DEP experience is an extremely valuable one in ensuring students success at Heriot-Watt.

About our Team

The Global College brings together academic pathways and pre-sessional English provision across Dubai, Malaysia and Scotland, and enables Heriot Watt to strengthen its academic excellence and provide an invaluable experience for students transitioning from Schools to Higher Education. Within Dubai, the Global College has been established since 2008 and support the university in widening access to students both locally and internationally. The Global College runs the most successful degree entry programme in the UAE in terms of quality and reputation, and this has resulted it becoming an extremely popular entry route to Heriot-Watt university with over 600 students enrolled this year.

Key Duties and Responsibilities * Develop and deliver engaging Computer Science curriculum for students, ensuring alignment with academic standards and educational objectives.

• Utilise a variety of instructional strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and promote student engagement and understanding.
• Assess student progress through assignments, exams, projects, and other forms of evaluation, providing constructive feedback and support for individual growth.
• Attend and contribute to Course Boards and Assessment Boards as appropriate.
• Contribute to the administration associated with the course delivery.
• Participate in external engagement activities for the Global College.
• Stay informed about current trends, developments, and best practices in Computer Science education, participating in professional development activities and conferences as appropriate.
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and a passion for learning.

Essential Qualification:

• Degree in a relevant discipline
• Experience of teaching Computer Science at Secondary, Foundation or Undergraduate level.
• Teaching experience within the British Education system.
• Effective student Engagement and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with colleagues as part of a team.
• Ability to set and monitor quality standards.

Desirable Qualification:

• Teaching qualification.
• Masters in relevant discipline.
• Teaching experience within the Scottish Education system.
• Experience of course/programme level management.
• Experience of developing innovative learning via VLE
• Ability to develop academic leadership at course /programme level.
